The Clinic’s new manager Kate Dodson-Ridout, as initiated a major phase of renewal centred on reconnecting the local community and strengthening the Clinic’s ethos, creativity, and social connection.
As part of this vision, Kate invited artist Kati Saqui to redesign the Clinic’s website and contribute to its identity. Together, they have shaped a mentoring and exhibition environment tailored for the Clinic’s next artist-in-residence, Frome based artist and illustrator Jacob Charlesworth.
Cartography of Transfigured Sentiments is the Clinic’s designated exhibition space—an evolving curatorial project. At the centre of the programme is Kati’s principle of redemptive reframing, a core focus of her practice-based PhD in Art at Bath Spa University. This approach restores value to what is hidden, imperfect, or unspoken, treating emotional residue as a form of poetic currency. It provides the conceptual grounding for positioning the Clinic as a place where art intersects with its community meaningfully.
The exhibition space forms the start of the new manager’s commitment to making the Clinic a cultural and relational hub—one that supports informal networking, creative engagement, and a renewed sense of community presence.
Jacob’s practice is rooted in emotional mapping, mindful drawing, and Neurographica-inspired processes—finds a natural home within this conceptual framework. The exhibition’s title and ethos mirror Jacob’s creative concerns, making his collaboration an organic fit for the Clinic’s broader vision.
Rather than presenting a rotation of artists, the clinic residency is committed to supporting Jacob’s long-term development. His artworks will shift and evolve throughout the residency, creating a dynamic exhibition that grows alongside his emotional and artistic exploration. Visitors to the Clinic’s waiting room will encounter a regular unfolding body of work, witnessing the gradual transformation of his visual language until he is ready to join the Clinic as an independent practitioner member.
Cartography of Transfigured Sentiments establishes a sustained inquiry into vulnerability, resilience, and emotional presence. As Jacob’s practice deepens across the residency, the exhibition becomes a living map of human experience—continually growing, continually revealing new pathways of insight.
